Network Management System
Along with the telecommunication technology development, the network scale is more and more big, the technique constitute is more and more complicated, And appears more and more telecommunication equipments manufacturers. Usually the telecommunication equipments manufacturers will provide a set of network management system to its own equipments in the operations center. Network administrators must manage networks consisting of many types of equipment from many manufacturers with a variety of vendor-specific management, The result is that network management becomes an arduous and complex task for network administrators.
HCView NMS is a user-friendly and powerful management solution that follows the International Telecomunications Union. The ITU defined the TMN architecture (Telecomunication Management Network). It provides a complete set of monitoring, control and configuration functions for Huachentel products. Such system is affordable for small installations, yet flexible to accommodate the network administrator’s future needs.
HCView Management Software
The TMN has five layers slipting the enterprise operations:
BML - Business Management Layer
Manage the overall business, acheiving return on investment, market share, employee satisfaction, community and governmental goal.
SML - Service Management Layer
Manage the service offered to customer or internal users, meeting customer service level, service quality, cost and time-to-market objectives
NML - Network Management Layer
Manage the network and systems that deliver those services, capacity, diversity, and congestion
EML - Element Management Layer
Mange the elements comprising the networks and systems
NEL - Network Element Layer
Switches, routers, tramission, distribution systems
All these layers have to be manage for being operationnal and performant. That is where the FCAPS concept is introduced.
In an effort to provide focus and consistency in the area of Network Management, the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) developed an international network management model known as the FCAPS model. This model identifies five key areas that make up the backbone of network management:
TMN FCAPS model
Network management solutions should conform to the ITU-T Telecommunication Management Network(TMN) recommmendations for SNMP management systems, and support the following functions (also known as the FCAPS model):
Fault Management
Fault Management is a set of functions which enables the detection, isolation and correction of abnormal operation of the telecommunication network and its environment. Fault management ensures that service remains available.
Configuration Management
Configuration Management provides functions to exercise control over, identify, collect data from and provide data to NEs.
Accounting Management
Accounting Management enables the measurement of the use of network services and the determination of costs to the service provider and charges to the customer for such use. It also supports the determination of prices for services.
Performance Management
Performance management involves the periodic collection of quality of service metrics QOS that characterize the performance of the network and system resource. One of its goal is to to find network congestion and bottlenecks and minimized them by subsequent action.
Security Management
Security Management should minimize unauthorized or accidental access to network control functions. Security management functions deals with ensuring legitimate use, maintening cinfidentialities, data integrity and auditability.
HCView NMS Structrue
HCView NMS implementation Configuration Management, Fault Management, Performance Management, and Security Management according TMN specification. It stands on the first three layers of TMN model:
Network Element Layer: SNMP agents, Telnet and HTTP Services within manageable products
Element Management Layer: Element management systems supporting hererogeneous network management and implementing the FCAPS model
Network Management Layer: Service Center applications capable of provisioning services and circuits in a user-friendly and powerful way. Automating configuration tasks and minimizing network downtime.
HCView NMS includes the following modules
Agents:
Agents supply various functions to the upper level applications ,such as SNMP get and set and trap, HTTP, Telnet interfaces, etc. They work both on MCU in the HCTEL communication devices and the NMS station.
Communication Server:
Communication Server collects all information of the devices. It accepts the user command, and translates it into specificated protocols ,such as SNMP PDU, and then sends them to the devices and conveys the device's response to the request applications. They also analysis the data pacage and generate all useful information, and save it into DB through Database Server. Database Server.
Database Server is the respository to store collected data from agent drivers. The database will store all the system information, such as managed object and their alarm traps, the performance information, the user information and the operation log. The server uses common database access interfaces ,including ODBC, thus it can support popular DBMS, eg. Microsoft SQL Server, Oracel, MySQL, etc.
Authentication Server:
Authentication Server supply the security service for user to execute the system function and access managed object.
Operation Center:
This is the major place that user execute various function that this system supplied. They can configure the managed object, adjust the network topology, call up system’s other modules.
Monitor Center:
Monitors the dynamic network status, indicates status change at the network, device, card and port levels. Displays alarms per node link and path.Sends alarm information to alarm management center.
Alarm Management Center:
Receives alarm information from monitor center.Stores alarm information in Database. Provides alarm information to alarm view client.
Alarm View Clients:
Alarm view clients is user-friendly and intuitionistic. It provides filters to view alarm list. Administrator may select one agent, local rack, card or port, and specific alarm levels, and specific alarm produced time to watch active alarms.Alarm information can be displayed in table or chart format.
Monitor Clients:
Monitor clients can display network or device real-time status. History network or device performance information can be displayed in table or chart format.
